Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) is a fully peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research and review articles on teaching and learning English and language education. This journal has been published every June and December by IAIN Kudus, Indonesia

The aim of this Journal is to present information and ideas on theories, research, methods, and materials related to language learning and teaching. Within this framework the Journal welcomes contributions in such areas of, but are not limited to the following topics:

Peer Review Process

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. Submissions that meet the requirements of the journal will be processed to a blind review by a minimum of two experienced reviewers in the field of English language teaching and learning. The response from the reviewer will be the consideration for the editor (editorial board) to determine whether an article can be published (accepted), published if revised, or discarded (rejected).

 

Publication Frequency

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) is published twice a year in the months of June and December for at least 12 papers.

 

Open Access Policy

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. It is fully Open Access: immediately freely available to read, download, and share. Articles are published under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) License which permits to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format. It also allows remixing, transforming, and building upon the material for any purpose.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

 

Article Publication Charge

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) does not charge authors fees for article submissions, processing, and publication (Free of Charge/APC).

 

Plagiarism Policy

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) Editorial Board considers that plagiarism is totally not acceptable and therefore designs the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) upon identification of plagiarism/similarities in articles submitted for publication in JETLI. We use Google Scholar and a plagiarism checker (Turnitin) before deciding whether an article is accepted or not.

Before submitting articles to reviewers, manuscripts are first checked for the manuscript possibility of being published in other sources. Then it is checked with similarity/plagiarism tool by a member of the editorial team. The papers submitted to the Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) must have a minimum similarity level of less than 15%. Should we find more than 15% of the similarity index, the article will be returned to the author for correction and re-submission.

Definition:

Plagiarism involves the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."

Policy:

Papers must be original, unpublished, and not pending publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source needs to be clearly identified as different from the present original text by (1) indentation, (2) use of quotation marks, and (3) identification of the source.

Any text of an amount exceeding fair use standards (herein defined as more than two or three sentences or the equivalent thereof) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, if feasible, the original author(s) and also requires identification of the source; e.g., previous publication.

When plagiarism is identified, the Editor in Chief is responsible for the review of this paper and will agree on measures according to the extent of plagiarism detected in the paper in agreement with the following guidelines.

Level of Plagiarism

Minor Plagiarism
A small sentence or short paragraph of another manuscript is plagiarized without any significant data or ideas taken from the other papers or publications.
Punishment
A warning is given to the authors and a request to change the manuscript and properly cite the original sources.

Intermediate Plagiarism
A significant data, paragraph, or sentence of an article is plagiarized without proper citation to the original source.
Punishment
The submitted article is automatically rejected.

Severe Plagiarism
A large portion of an article is plagiarized that involves many aspects such as reproducing original results (data, formulation, equation, law, statement, etc.), ideas, and methods presented in other publications.
Punishment
The paper is automatically rejected and the authors are forbidden to submit further articles to the journal.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) License. that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
  • Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.

Publication Ethics

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) is a peer-reviewed journal. This journal follows guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) facing all aspects of publication ethics and, in particular, how to handle cases of research and publication misconduct. This statement clarifies the ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, the peer-reviewer­­­­­ and the publisher (Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kudus). Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) is dedicated to following best practices on ethical matters, errors, and retractions. The prevention of publication malpractice is one of the important responsibilities of the editorial board. Any kind of unethical behavior is not acceptable, and the journals do not tolerate plagiarism in any form.

Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) adapts COPE to meet a high-quality standard of ethics for the publisher, editors, authors, and reviewers. As an essential issue, publication ethics needs to be explained clearly to improve the quality of the research worldwide. In this part, we explain the standard for editors, authors, and reviewers. Publisher don’t have the right to interfere with the integrity of the contents and only support publishing in timely manner.

For Editors

  1. Based on the review report of the editorial review board, the editor can accept, reject, or request modifications to the manuscript.
  2. Editors should be responsible for every article published in Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI).
  3. The editors may communicate with other editors or reviewers in making the final decision.
  4. An editor has to evaluate the manuscript objectively for publication, judging each on its quality without looking to nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the authors. He/she should decline his/her assignment when there is a potential conflict of interest.
  5. Editors need to ensure the document sent to the reviewer does not contain the information of the author, vice versa.
  6. Editors’ decisions should be informed to authors accompanied by reviewers’ comments unless they contain offensive or libelous remarks.
  7. Editors should respect requests from authors that an individual should not review the submission if these are well-reasoned and practicable.
  8. Editors and all staff should guarantee the confidentiality of the submitted manuscript.
  9. Editors will be guided by COPE flowcharts if there is suspected misconduct or disputed authorship.

For Reviewers

  1. Reviewers need to comment on ethical questions and possible research and publication misconduct.
  2. Reviewers will do the work in timely manner and should notify the editor if they can not complete the work.
  3. Reviewers need to keep the confidentiality of the manuscript.
  4. Reviewers should not accept to review the manuscripts in which there is potential conflict of interest between them and any of the authors.

For Authors

  1. Author(s) affirm that the material has not been previously published and that they have not trans­ferred elsewhere any rights to the article.
  2. Author(s) should ensure the originality of the work and they have properly cited others’ work in accordance with the format of the references.
  3. Author(s) should not engage in plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
  4. Author(s) should ensure that they follow the authorship criteria that are taken from Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) that is explained in instruction for the author of  Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI)
  5. Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. It is also expected that the author will not publish redundant manuscripts or manuscripts describing the same research in more than one journal.
  6. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to conception, design, execution or interpretation of the reported study. Others who have made significant contribution must be listed as co-authors. Authors also ensure that all the authors have seen and agreed to the submitted version of the manuscript and their inclusion of names as co-authors.
  7. The author(s) haven’t suggested any personal information that may make the identity of the patient recognizable in any form of description part, photograph, or pedigree.
  8. Author(s) should give the editor the data and details of the work if there are suspicions of data falsification or fabrication.
  9. If at any point in time, the author(s) discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in the submitted manuscript, then the error or inaccuracy must be reported to the editor.
  10. Authors of the journal should clarify everything that may cause conflict of interests such as work, research expenses, consul­tant expenses, and intellectual property on the document of  Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) form disclosure.

Article Retraction

The articles published in the Journal of English Teaching and Learning Issues (JETLI) will be considered to be retracted in the journal publication if:

  1. They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation or experimental error).
  2. The findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper crossreferencing, permission, or justification (i.e., cases of redundant publication).
  3. It is prooved as plagiarism works.
  4. It contains material or data without authorization for use.
  5. It is reported as unethical research.
  6. The author(s) failed to disclose a major competing interest (a.k.a. conflict of interest) that, in the view of the editor, would have unduly affected interpretations of the work or recommendations by editors and peer reviewers.

The mechanism of retraction follows the Retraction Guidelines of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
