Ilmu Huruf (al-‘ilm al-ẖurūf) dan Prospek Penerapannya dalam Terapi Sufistik

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the letter sciences concerning form objects and their material objects as well as some axioms in letter sciences with the ‘Irfan Naari approach and evaluate the prospects for the application of this field in the field as a healing medium with a sufistic approach. The method used in this research is analytical descriptive approach to Falsafi Sufism. The results showed that the existence of supernatural acts such as magic, talisman, sha'badha, niīranjâ, miracles and sacred and also those who oppose habits (kharq al-'ādah) cannot be denied, both in akli and naqli. The Science of Letters ('ilm al-ūurūf), is one part of the Strange Sciences (al-ūulūm al-gharībah), that is knowledge that can be learned by which one can cause supernatural actions. Some Sufi orders have applied this knowledge in Sufi medicine (Sufi Healing). Empirical evidence about supernatural actions arising from the application of the Science of Letters, as reported by Ibn Khaldun in Muqaddimah, is valid. But now this science has stalled. Although it is still practiced, no new original works have been published in this field of science. Among the causes is the assumption of most Muslims that this science is occult, even labeled shirk and heresy. Moreover, in the Science of Letters itself is stored theoretical problems that require answers, namely how to prove the existence of the concrete existence of letters and letter privileges intended by the Science of Letters.
