Psychotherapy in Sufism and the Qur’an: Said Nursi’s Perspective
Abstract
The soul is a crucial concept to understand, especially in the post-truth era, which often ignores the Qur’an as a source of knowledge, leading to confusion and moral decline. Studies of Western psychotherapy show that modern psychological theories tend to consider spirituality not the core of human essence. In Islam, moral decline can affect faith, and psychotherapy plays a crucial role in offering solutions to mental and spiritual problems. Through a qualitative literature review, this study aims to explore Said Nursi's ideas on psychotherapy. Using a literature-based approach, the results indicate that, from Said Nursi's perspective, the concept of psychotherapy in healing the soul entails sincerity, communal unity, guidance from the Qur’an as a source of spiritual healing, and tazkiyatun nafs to purify the heart and deepen faith. These findings contribute both scientifically and practically by offering a comprehensive, universal solution to address psychological problems and achieve genuine happiness.
