Holistic Happiness: Integrating Happiness Based on Risalah Thariqah dan the Authentic Happiness Theory
Abstract
Happiness is a universal goal, but the approaches to achieving it differ between positive psychology and Sufism. There is a gap between psychological approaches, such as Martin Seligman’s Authentic Happiness Theory, and spiritual approaches, such as those in the Risalah Thariqah by K.H.R. As’ad Syamsul Arifin. This study aims to integrate both concepts to build a holistic happiness model and evaluate its relevance in the modern context. Using the hermeneutic-ethnographic method, the texts and spiritual practices of students were analyzed. The results showed an integration of spiritual aspects and psychological aspects, forming a complete happiness model. Thariqah is integrated with a meaningful life, tawajjuh, with an engaged life, muraqabah, with a pleasant life, and maqamat with personal strength development. These findings are relevant to modern life by providing positive implications in the context of education, counseling, and community development. These findings offer spirituality based solutions for building deeper and more sustainable psychological well-being.
