Current Trends in Integrating Artificial Intelligence for Arabic Language Learning in Pesantren

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the potential, challenges, and ethical implications of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Arabic language learning within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Using a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review, the research examines various scholarly sources from Scopus- and SINTA-indexed journals relevant to AI, Arabic language education, and pesantren-based learning. The analysis reveals that AI holds significant potential in enhancing learning effectiveness through personalized content delivery, real-time feedback, and the development of interactive media that support the mastery of Arabic morphology and syntax. However, the implementation of AI in pesantren faces several challenges, including limited infrastructure, cultural resistance, digital literacy gaps, as well as privacy and algorithmic bias concerns. The study also highlights the importance of a contextual approach aligned with pesantren values and emphasizes the urgency of developing comprehensive ethical regulations. With the right strategies and the involvement of all stakeholders, AI can serve as a transformative tool that supports the digital evolution of pesantren education while remaining grounded in Islamic principles.
