TRANSFORMASI RUANG DI UNIVERSITAS: DARI RUANG PUBLIK KE RUANG PRIVAT

Abstract


Ruang publik di universitas sedang mengalami transformasi besar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan mengkritisi transformasi ruang di kampus negeri tersebut. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi lapangan, wawancara mendalam, serta studi pustaka. Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi kualitatif dan secara khusus menekankan realisme kritis sebagai paradigma utama untuk membongkar mekanisme umum yang melandasi sebuah realitas sosial, dalam hal ini transformasi spasial. Menggunakan teori kritis dari Henri Lefebvre, studi ini menghasilkan tiga kesimpulan. Pertama, kehadiran fasilitas modern seperti coworking space dan digital lounge merupakan pertanda perubahan spasial, tidak hanya secara material saja namun juga pada secara imajiner dan simbolik. Transformasi ruang tersebut terpusat pada bergantinya ruang publik menjadi ruang privat. Kedua, transformasi spasial dari ruang publik menjadi privat tidak pernah lepas dari kepentingan kaum borjuis. Terakhir, penelitian ini berargumen bahwa transformasi ruang tersebut memiliki potensi buruk bagi berlangsungnya kehidupan sosial-politik kampus.
